MamboMatch is our dating software. We never owned MamboMatch.com but would have liked to get JoomlaMatch.com.

Hi Jeff,

Im the owner of JoomlaResource.com (not 's) Id just like to add a note here to define squatter.

A Squatter is someone who registers a domain for the sole purpose of selling it on at a profit, many such domains are for sale, at a price!

Now, when Joomla! Announced the new name I was there trying to get some decent names. In all I managed to register about 9, this to some of you may seem unfair and pointless, but Id just like to add that I will not be selling any of the domains, I am going to be building a large network of Joomla Related Sites which will help the community.

I have been helped in the past and would like to return the favour.

Squatter is being used in this thread as anyone who ignored the agreement to only register their mambo related domains before the general announcement.

Did you register those domains before the public announcement or after?

Default Squat This

Long time mambo-er first time mambohostingtalk forum writer...

Ok, first of all: major Props going out to the creators, supporters etc etc etc of Mambo Open Source Software! I cannot thank you all enough for the support you've given me over the past year since I've discovered just how "beautiful" Mambo OS is!

Onto the topic at hand. I wish to inform you all about how the recent event, with the change of Mambo OS's title to the new Joomla title, troubles me! Actually, what troubles me is just how inconsiderately it was changed by the main programmers / decision makers.

Now, Mambo is open source of course and I'm not flaming the main programmers at all! But I honestly feel that they have "turned a blind eye" from the very community that supports them and helps in the development.

Below is a list of all the independent programmers I have personally seeked for support in the past and owe so much too for their time and efforts:

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
- MamboJoe.com -
- MamboPortal.com -
- MamboMe.com -
- MamboSphere.com -
- MamboSolutions.com -
- HowToMambo.com -
- MamboHut.com -
- FreeMambo.com -
- AllMambo.com -
- MamboZip.com -
- Mambozilla.com -
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Without the above sites and independent programmers there would not be as many components, mambots, modules, etc as there are now.

So common sense tell us that changing the name of Mambo to Joomla would "direct attention away from any sites titled Mambo" and onto the new name "Joomla" is just poor form not to give independent programmers a window of opportunity to rename there sites to the new Joomla title.

Yes there are a lot of sites out there that use the name Mambo, too many to count I think. But I personally feel that the main programmers should have developed the new name and keep it a secret. Then they could have sent out a mass mailer to all independent programmers with a Mambo titled website to join in a chat room of sort.

Not saying all mambo titled sites should be included. But anyone who frequents MamboForge.net knows who is actively involved in development and who is not. These active developers should have been notified of the name change first, so they would have a window of opportunity to change there mambo titled site over to Joomla.

This is just an opinion. I didn't mean to offend, flame etc anyone. And if you took it personal, stop and don't take it personal.

Either way, I still love Mambo... errr Joomla. I thank you all for your kind and educated support!! I wish the best for you all and hope all is well.

Sincerely,
Endurox

PS ~ Squatting is not illegal, but if you're active in the mambo OS community, use the support from mambo independent developers, and have purchased a Joomla website to profit from a developer who needs to convert there web name. I urge you to consider asking for a simple re-embursment of your costs in domain name purchase. I thank any of you kind and considerate enough to continue supporting the Mambo... Joomla community. God Speed Everyone!

Thank you endurox for the kind words and welcome to MHT/JHT forums

I agree with you that 1 hour was a short period to secure a domain but it was enough for most people however some international domain may take longer to secure.

The problem we have here is that some people don't have the ethics to honor a simple agreement and play by the rules. They just want to benefit from the community and give nothing or very little back.

I too had one my domains squatted before the public announcement because the squatter didn’t like his new joomla equivalent name so he decided to snatch mine instead because it sounds mush better.

And after repeated attempts to resolve the issue between us he simply ignored my request, even after an open discussion at the joomla forum he didn’t want to comply.

His name is Ron Hoefnagel (Severon), the owner of mambolance.com

He registered joomlance.com which is the equivalent of mamlance.com

Is that someone you can trust or do business with?

This is rather old, so some may not know what went down. There actually was a period of 1 hour (iirc) that people who owned Mambo related domains had to register the Joomla equivalent. Some people ignored the agreement and used that time to register Joomla domains that others owned the Mambo equivalent to. But it's water under the bridge at this point.
