Mambo or Joomla - What's the difference?

I would like to know whether I should use Mambo or Joomla. What is the difference has they both seem pretty much the same?

At this point the systems are largely the same. You'll want to take a look at the roadmap for each, as well as what components seem to have more support under which system and decide from there.

Are Joomla and Mambo interchangeable... in the sense, is it possible to use joomla templates with Mambo sites and visa-versa?

At this point almost all should work with either. You might have a few more issues with components, but even many of those will work.

I think Joomla has taken off compared to Mambo.
