Question How do I move a cpanel account from one host to another?

My account with another host is expiring and I am moving. Both hosts use cpanel. Would someone give me the step by step on how to do that?

The main site is mambo, but there are multiple test directories for other scripts.

Thank you in advance.

David

I think the best way to do this is to run a cpanel backup at your old host then run a restore from the new host after your account is created on the new cpanel server.

if you can keep the same username, this will save you a lot of time changing the path in configuration files. Also you will need to restore your MySQL DBs and user connections.

If you have a dedicated server with access to the root password on the old server , you can ask your host to migrate your account from the old server with cPanel migration tool

Hope that helps!

I have a share of a server/reseller account and have WHM access. Would I be able to use the cpanel migration tool?

Cheers,

David

Nope, it's a root only tool

Ask the owner of the server with root access to restore the account for you.

If you have root access you can use SSH, if not, you have a coupel of different options.
1. You can transfer them through your WHM using the transfer account with password. You will need the cPanel username and pass for every account you move this way.

2. You can make a full backup of the account from the other server. Then, upload the backup to your new server, and move it to the /home directory. Login to your WHM and click restore fullbackups. (Only used if Root Access is enabled)

3. Contact your host and see if they can move them for you!

A lot of hosts can do the migration for you. Just contact the one you have chosen and ask them if they offer that kind of service. It just makes your life easier a bit if they do the job correctly. Good luck.
