Default Issue with Joomla & Cpanel 10, Advice required!!

Hello to all members.

This is my first post, so apologies if it is in the wrong section etc.

I have a hosting package which uses Cpanel10/Fantastico etc and I have started to use Joomla for my site.

I recently installed a component but had problems uploading files that I had amended. It stated "Permission Denied"

I attempted to change the permissions, but was not allowed to.

I then spoke to my Hosting company and they told me that the permissions needed to be changed at the root and only he could do that.

Is this a known issue?

If so, please direct me towards the workaround if there is one.

If not, does anyone have any suggestions, as my host seems to think this may be the case with other Joomla Components.

Many Thanks in advance

Angus

The only real way around this is to change the permissions of files and folders to 0777 when they get installed. You can do that in the global permissions.

What's happening is that when Joomla installs a CMT the files and folders are owned by Apache so you don't have permissions to them.

something needs to be done to it. Else it will be a prob for the hosting providers. If people want to uninstall any component they will have to email the admin or support. :-(. I had the same prob. I develope websites using Joomla and often have to go thru the premissions. Lucky me .. i own a webserver. Nyways ... im new to JHT.

Thankfully something is being done. In Joomla 1.5 there will be an FTP installer method that will fix these problems.

Thumbs up

Kool. Nice to hear that. Will lead to less tickets to the support. Joomla rocks.
