How do I handle tax rates within a state using Virtuemart?
I have a active Joomla site and am working on the Virtuemart section now.x What is concerning me is how I set up taxes.
I live in Colorado, Northglenn to be exact.x If I ship out of state I don't have to charge taxes.x Across Colorado outside of Denver metro it's 2.9%.x Then within the Denver metro there's a couple use taxes for light rail expansion, stadium taxes, etc. which takes it up to over 4%.x Then if they are within the same county as me it goes up to around 7%, same city over 8%.x This can be very confusing!
I'm selling on EBay now and I have it set up default for anyone in Colorado to charge 2.9%.x In my terms I list the other rates.x Of course whenever people buy from within Colorado, even where rates are higher often they don't pay the higher rates.x I sell to so few people in Colorado and most items I sell aren't that expensive so often it comes out to only $2 or so that I am out. I end up just making that different up myself.x By the time they paid the extra with paypal with paypal fees I'd get nothing anyway.
Now that I'm going to Virtuemart I was hoping for an easier solution but it still seems it only calculates by state.x Is there any extensions that allow it to calculate by zip code?x I think it would be harder to have a customer calculate their tax rate and add that in at the end and as I sell more products and more expensive products I will possibly lose a lot of money with this.x I know there has to be some solution to this and that Colorado can't be the only state with this situation.x How do I get around this issue?
