Default CSS problem

xxxxo

I hope some one can help me, I've been asked to post my question by one of the moderators on mamboforums. The problem i am having is when people are looking at my site from the outside the localhost the template doesn't show as it does when i see it here. I am not sure what I should be doing to fix my problem. Here is the link to the basic template of mambo that is on my server. Oh i better say i am using apache2, php5, and mysql.

http://enchantedmusic.broadbanddns.com/mambo

I look forward to getting any help to fix this.

Regards
Stuart

Stuart,
localhost is just that - local. As all the links are to localhost, no one from the outside will see graphics, styles etc.
If the paths to that information was your domain name, I'm sure everything will be OK.
So instead of paths being:

http://localhost/Mambo/....

they need to be:

http://enchantedmusic.broadbanddns.com/Mambo/...

Is that what you meant?

Sue

Hello Sue,

Thanks for your help, I have changed the live link in the configuration file to $mosConfig_live_site = 'http://enchantedmusic.broadbanddns.com/Mambo';

Is this the correct thing to do?

Could you please check my site and let me know if the css template is working.
http://enchantedmusic.broadbanddns.com/mambo

Thanks again
Stuart

Hi Stuart
not sure what's happened here now....I get a 404 error - which means "File Not Found". I took off the "mambo" bit of the URL and got a file listing (never a good thing) and Mambo wasn't one of the directories I could see.
Is the path correct? Is mambo in a directory called "mambo".
I can find an installation in a directory called "testing" (which is why you shouldn't allow ppl to browse the directories - they snoop around )
The install in "testing" is showing a path to "10.1.1.5" (if you view the source of your page you'll see what I mean).
If you've created the site on your local machine and have transferred it to the remote server, then maybe (and I'm talking through my hat here, cause I've never tried it) you've not copied all the required files up.
Can you run the administrator and select another template (say, SolarFlare) and display the styles etc properly?
Don't give up - it'll be worth it in the end!

Sue

Default same problem

hello Sue, im having the same problem. i am a NEWBIE (learned Joomla like 4 weeks ago to build my comp's intranet site) and now im ready to go live with the site. Maybe my problem is a lil different in that:

1. Its an intranet site - we have our own webserver - and i have to load on apache/phpmyadmin/mysql - becuz i dont have a clue how to configure any of these ( im also pressed for TIME) i decided to just use WAMP 5 .

2. The site runs great on the webserver, but the "localhost" name causes the same aforementioned problems

sue, how do i change the name from localhost? this might be a dumb question, but im tryin to learn this joomla, web design thing. I didnt install joomla to WAMP, i just copied the folder and appropriate mysql files into WAMP, so i didnt get to define a site name. In addition to this, can wamp really be used to serve the site, or so i need to go the traditional route?

Respond soon. thanx

To change localhost, open the configuration.php file in the Joomla root folder. Then look for the line $mosConfig_live_site and change it there.

thanx Keliix, however, unlike stuart, i did not go through the whole "naming my site" route becuz i used JSAS and just copied the appropriate files over to WAMP. (Joomla wasnt "installed on the WAMP", so i didnt get the prompt to name my site). Do i just go ahead and change the site name in any case? I will try it and post my results soon

Been a while since I've used JSAS, but I believe it uses localhost as the default. You probably will want to rename that.

so b4 i copy over to my production server, i need change the name from local host? this will mean editing all configuration files for mysql etc... too rite? If so, can u give me a walk thru of what to do?

btw, on my production server, i will be using "The Uniform Server" (not WAMP, since after research, i read that WAMP shouldnt be used for live site purposes)
