Unhappy how to change the display number of contents in a category...

hai.........
i have been working on joomla 1.0.7 for some time now.........i have a menu item that is of type table-content category....so it shows up all the content items for a particular category, right???it works allright....but the problem is this particular category has 60 content items but only 50 are getting displayed....i understand this is because of the parameter"display number "of the menu item which is set to 50........but there are no higher options there...how do i override this.........any help would be greatly appreciated......thanks...

Are you talking about in the backend? You can manually set it in configuration.php.

This is the issue I think that is being asked about for Mambo and Joomla (I guess):

1. Create a menu item that is linked to a table from a content category.
2. For that contact category, if you have more than 50 items assigned to it, they will not be shown in the list when you go to the website and click on the menu link. There is no next button or anything, just the 1st 50 items shown.

The maximum display number for the menu item is 50, and I myself am wondering which file needs to be modified to display more than 50 items in the menu link? Configuration.php only seems to hold what administrators can see when editing content in the backend, but the problem mentioned above deals with the frontend menu manager.

Any pointers as to which file needs to be modified, and the location in the server structure where that file is?

Thanks.

Todd

Not looking at configuration.php, and this is untested, but if you change $mosConfig_list_length to a higher value than 50, it should display that number of items.

I tried this again just to be sure, but I changed that variable to 500 at first and then 200 on the second attempt. When I replaced the configuration.php on the server, it only seems to affect the 'List Length' value in the Global Configuration and that is all. If it is set to anything higher than 50, then it defaults to 5.

For the other lists that I looked at, they are all still set to a maximum of 50. I am not as familiar with the Mambo file structure to be able to quickly find the file that could possibly fix this.

Hopefully we can find the answer soon!

Todd

Okay, just after posting the last comment, I found the location of the files and got it to work. Here is what you need to do :

1. On your website file listing in FTP, go to the www/administrator/com_menus/content_category directory.

2. I had to copy the content_category.xml file to my local machine to edit it.

3. I opened the file using FrontPage and added additional numbers under the 'display_num' field. I added lines for 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500.

4. I renamed the file on the server to content_category_old.xml and then copied my new file.

5. Went into the Mambo administration, changed the value to 300, and now on the website I can see my entire list of 190+ links.

Hope this helps! I am using Mambo 4.5.2 by the way....

Todd
