Default Hosting advice needed

Hi, I have a hosting package that allows me one primary domain and five addon domains and I am a bit unsure about how to set something up.

I have set up an addon domain of http://www.dmxdimension.com , installed Joomla and I am ready to start building up the site.

I have also set up a second addon domain of the same name with a .co.uk extension and pointed it to the same sub directory as the .com domain.

I want to know if this is the correct way to set up the same website with two different domain names (.co.uk and .com)

Thanks for looking

Default Does it work?

I hope I understand you correctly. From what I gather you want to point / forward your .co.uk domain to your .com domain.

S1: What you'll need to do is hit up your domain names registar company ( the company you bought your .co.uk domain name ) log in and set the DNS / Name Servers to the same thing your .com site has for its name servers.

Or if you want to have one hosting account but two domains.

S2: Depends on your host. You can create sub-domains such as.... sub.yoursite.com, but thats about as close as you'll come to "creating" another website on the same server. You can forward your .co.uk domain to lets say http:/www.yoursite.com/folder but you'll have to be extremely rediculusly careful when developing your website to make sure it doesn't conflict. NOT WORTH IT and very unprofessional in my opinion.

But then again, with more information members of this forum can better assist you. Hope this helps and hope all is well.

Later,
Endurox

Thanks for the reply,

This is exactly what I want to do and what I thought I had done already, although it looks like the dns has screwed up somewhere now.

I was really just curious if that was the correct way to do it and also I wondered if the search engines would see it as a kind of spamming as there would be two seperate domain names with exactly the same content. Although I guess this is done by thousands of sites already.

Cheers

After doing some more research on this I have found out that the correct thing to do is use a 301 redirect on the .co.uk name. Otherwise Google would see two sites with duplicate content which could potentially get me banned from their index.

I think the option for the .co.uk domain is called 'parked domain'. If you park the .co.uk domain to the .com, they will open the same site.

if you want to run the same site on both domains you can use url masking to achieve the same result instead of putting same content for two different domain.
