Question Setting up a hosting site on Mambo

Hi Jomaco1,

Well i wantedto know how would one start setting up a hosting site thru mambo?
I would like to offer plans in a typical manner for linux and windows to visitors.
Mainly my ideas run out when it comes to order form. its like i can layout the site with different packages to offer the customer, but once the customer is ready to go with lets say planB and proceeds to order it, how would i need to set my site up? Order form, along with the respective payment option of the plan choosen.??

I hope you get the idea as to what i am in search of. thanks in advance

MJ

Slykid,

You will likely want to purchase some sort of order processing application. When I first started I used whois.cart. It's a good solution if you are looking for something fairly basic and only $35.

I'm currently using ModernBill. It is much more poweful and comprehensive, but also carries a much larger price tag.

Either solution will let you mimic your Mambo design through their system, so the entire process can look seemless.

Hi Keliix06,

Thanks for guidance, I will go with whoiscart.net, the package seems to work out just right for me, price and feature wise.
Is there any particular template that i should use for mambo, inorder to help me layout the different plan for linux and windows hosting, that i plan to offer.

Apart from the hosting project, i am also planning out e-comm project. I have downloaded mambo-phpshop, though it seems fairly easy to use, its giving me hard time setting the shop. Like bunch of php errors, esp when uploading new image of the item, vendor info update, currency of the item does not show up. Plus I am newbie to php and am going thru a difficult time setting it up. If you can guide me on that i would really appreciate your time.

Regards,
MJ
P.S. If you or know of any whoiscart.net affiliate, i don't mind purchasing thru that link. Do let me know !!

There are a couple ways to seperate out plans. You can have an option on the order form what OS they want to use. I don't remember if whois.cart let's you setup multiple order forms, but if it does you can have the select before the signup. If you look at the order process for mambo-hosting.com you will see that we give the option for Plesk or cPanel before redirecting to the billing system. There is a small bit of javascript that figures out which radio button is selected and redirects based on that to the appropriate order form. You can search google to find the code, that's where we found it.

If you search around the whois.cart forums there is a lot of good information on setting up the template to look like your site. It's not too difficult to do and depending on your site layout, you can actually get rid of most of the design and just wrap it in your Mambo layout.

I haven't ever had any problems setting up phpShop on our systems, but I do know someone who was running it from a Windows setup and he had a bunch of problems with it. I haven't run the latest version yet, we are still a couple behind. Never really update unless I need the features

just got into the hosting side of mambo and so far cpanel, modernbill and a proper template with fantastico as option makes an awesome setup.

keliix06, love the work put into your site however after investing considerable time feelyour site has a proper base setup however your layout and site flow needs a bit of hacking. will post site url shortly and wouldnt mind offereing assitance if needed.

Default whoiscart

Just looking at buying a second license of whois cart and would be interested in purchasing a cool template for them. Or even using the same template for both.
Sorry to take away from this thread but it may be handy.

There's no CMS that will do what you want by itself. (Even what Word puts out isn't real HTML.) Drupal, Joomla and Code Igniter will allow you to write a CMS that will allow you to do what you want. (Programming isn't "download it, click and it does what you want, it's download it - learn programming - and make it do what you want. You're not going to find something that doesn't take programming on your part.)
Your best bet is actually the database on the site itself, and your pages generated by PHP code that draws data from the database. (And a program - in PHP, on the site - that lets you add, delete and modify data in the database.) But you have to learn how to use the CMS to create the code that will do all that (and that means learning programming. Or, if you want to limit your work and knowledge to selling books - and, having written sites for bookstores, I know that's more than a full-time job - hire someone to develop your site for you. (No, I'm not soliciting business - I have more than enough.)
