Selective backup?

A client asked me if Plesk had a feature for backing up only certain directories. I've never seen any capability like this and told the client he would probably need to have a custom script written for backing up the desired directories, then invocate the script using cron tasks.

If someone knows otherwise, I'm interested to know what the options are.

the built in backup function in plesk doesn't allow you to do that, however there's a plesk add-on developed by 4psa.com called "4PSA Client Backup" that has all sort of options for backup. it's not too expensive either

Is that something the client could purchase and install to their domain, or something that would need to be installed by the server admin?

That's a server wide addon, you need a server root access to install it
