I am trying to decide if or whenI should go to a dedicated server. Does anybody have any thoughts on this.
I move all of my flv, mov, and mp3 stuff to cachefly and libsyn which reduced my cpu usage and disc space requirements (only if I can watch my error_log more closely), I an not sure if I want/need to spend nearly twice what I am paying now for an entry level dedicated server.
There are really only 5 reasons to "go dedicated":
- Processing requirements (your sites use too much CPU/RAM for a shared environment)
- Storage requirements (you need more space than what's practical in shared hosting)
- Custom/flexible setup (you need a custom php/mysql/etc. setup)
- Security (there are additional minor security concerns introduced in a shared environment)
- Uptime/ Loading speeds (each site on a server is another opportunity for downtime or speed decreases. Having your own server tends to decrease the possibility. This one tends to be more important on mission-critical business sites)
Unless you hit one of those (storage has a workaround as you've found) there really isn't a need to spend the additional money.

I agree with keliix06. if you hit any of the reasons you should move as soon as possible. Dont hamper your business any more. You can get a dedicated server and for management part you can do that yourself or most of the hosting companies will do this for you for free.
