Default Need help accessing admin control panel

Could someone suggest, or have an idea why, after install I can log on as admin, using the generated password, but can't access the admin panel??? I set up mambo on an apache server with mysql and it runs fine (even though it is not in the root). I set up another site on the same server with a new domain and clean root directory. However it won't let me log onto the admin control panel. I have dumped the database, erased all the core files and uploaded them again but still got the same effect.

Anyone got any idea what I am doing wrong???

You might want to check the permissions before you upload the files. I suspect it is a permisssions problem. You also might want to take a look at your config file and make sure it is pointing to the right directories, can you see the graphics on the frontpage if you don't login as admin?

Default Thanks... did check permissions

On the first set up attempt I set all the directories to full acess (even execute). I figured I could change them later. I logged on with "admin" and the generated password. I got in the User section but it would not let me into the Admin Panel. Yes I did get graphics. Every component and module appeared to be working except going in to make changes. I erased all the directories, reinstalled clean and dropped the database files. I then put everything back on. When I ran the setup program the fourth option came back with an error "3;www/php". I suspect that is the problem but I don't know what I did right the first time I set Mambo up on the back end of one of my sites. I put it on that site to experiment with. It runs and I am currently redirecting traffic to it until I can get this problem fixed. The host says php4 and 5 are already activated. All the directory premissions reported back writeable. Also on the second install I let set up chmod the directories. Got the exact same result.

Any other ideas???

If it is on the same server, I would suggest changeing your config file and modify the help server. It could be that is not able to resolve at the moment. You could just set it to http://localhost to test it. Other than that, all I can think of is that the filesystem is full, or at least where tmp is located.

Thanks... I went back and dropped all the tables in the mysql database. I deleted all the files on the new web server, just like I did two times before. However, I did like you suggested and set the permissions for the files on my computer before I uploaded the setup files back onto the web server directory. I manually chmod the permissions after I uploaded as I had before. I ran the mambo set up and got the same error message as before but this time it did run. Wouldn't ever have believed, or thought of, changing the attributes in windows would make a difference. It seems as long as you changed them after uploading it would be the same thing. There must be some latent protection that chmod can't change. it's these little idiotsyncracies one only finds out with experience. No amount of logic or frenetic aptitude can replace experience. I thank you once again. You are a scholar and a gentleman.
